About the Fine Arts Director of PVSchools

Mr. Joel Taylor

Photo of Joel TaylorJoel David Taylor is an educator, and an award-winning, active professional actor and director of stage and film. He has nearly three decades of experience as an educator. During his career in education, Joel been a classroom teacher, coach, arts adjudicator, workshop presenter and an education and Fine Arts administrator in Kansas, Colorado, Texas and now in Arizona. He has taught Theatre, all areas of Social Sciences and Journalism and coached track and football. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences and Theatre from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and a Master of Arts in Education and Administration, with additional graduate hours in Gifted/Talented and Secondary Languages and Cultures from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. 

As an active professional actor/director, Joel has enjoyed working with many theatre productions, and has International Movie Database (IMDB) credits that include; commercials, voice-over work, award-winning films, including Lifetime TV and Hallmark Hall of Fame Films. 

He represents the school district in a unique partnership with the Kennedy Center. This partnership emphasizes improving learning opportunities for students and teachers by training teachers in the practice of arts integration, an approach to teaching in which the arts enhance learning in other subject areas such as math, sciences, language arts, and social studies. 

Joel also supervises and collaborates with special programming in the district, such as the Suzuki Violin program at Desert Shadows Elementary School and the North Valley Arts Academies (NVAA). The NVAA program offers students a rigorous academic program that includes a concentrated emphasis on performing and visual arts, which includes multiple entry points for interested students from grades 5 through 12. Ms. Kim Adams

Kim Adams serves as the Fine Arts Education Administrative Assistant. Her primary responsibilities include implementing the procedures and processes necessary to achieve the goals and objectives of the Fine Arts Department.

Mr. Nathan Laughlin

Nathan Laughlin serves as the district Auditorium Manager. He oversees auditorium operations and works with teachers and administrators to provide necessary support for school events.
