In-Person and Online Options for 2021-22

We are pleased to announce that for the 2021-2022 school year you will have the ability to select one of three learning options designed to meet the ever-changing needs of students and their families. These options include:

  • A traditional school experience with in-person learning at the student’s assigned school

  • PVConnect, a structured online school experience, through Sweetwater Community School (learn more about Sweetwater Community School)

  • PVOnline, a self-paced online learning experience, allowing students to work independently (learn more about PVOnline)

If your student(s) plans to attend in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year, no additional forms are needed. Please follow the normal enrollment process. But if you are already enrolled in our district, then no further action is necessary. We look forward to seeing your student(s) in August!

PVConnect

PVConnect Icon - Live Virtual Instruction

Students enrolled in PVConnect will participate in full-time, online learning with scheduled virtual instruction through Google Meet. All students will be expected to attend each day, submit assignments, and participate as if they were attending school in-person. PVConnect students are considered students of Sweetwater Community School and no longer associated with their formerly assigned school. Teachers will share curriculum resources and assignments with students through Google Classroom. PVConnect will offer IEP/504 support for students with special needs, as well as services for gifted students and English Language Learners.

Grades K-6 will participate in a structured virtual classroom each morning. Afternoons will consist of independent learning activities, scheduled small groups, and individual instruction.

Grades 7-12 will participate in full-time, online learning utilizing Google Meet with a schedule similar to middle and high school in-person schools. Class periods will be 53 minutes long with time between periods to reset and prepare for the upcoming classes. View the PVConnect bell schedules.


PVOnline

PVOnline Icon - Online Self-Paced Learning

Students enrolled in PVOnline will participate in a self-paced virtual learning experience. Students, who have access to the curriculum at all times, will work independently. There is also access to PVSchools teachers through a teacher-supported learning environment; however, students do not meet with teachers daily. PVOnline offers IEP/504 support for students with special needs, as well as services for gifted students and English Language Learners.

Note: If you fill out one of the preceding registration forms but  you have never been enrolled in the PVSchools district or you were no longer enrolled as of the end of the 2020-2021 school year, you will also need to complete our digital registration form and fill out this supporting paperwork.

In-Person FAQ

What do I need to do to enroll my child at an in-person school for the 2021-2022 school year?

Enrolling a student at an in-person school can be initiated if by visiting the Enrollment Packet webpage or visiting the Open Enrollment webpage.

PVConnect FAQs

What is PVConnect?

PVConnect is a full-time, online learning experience with scheduled virtual instruction through Google Meet classrooms. All students are expected to attend each day, have their camera on to participate in classroom activities, and submit assignments as if they were attending school in person. PVConnect is part of the Sweetwater Community School in Paradise Valley Unified School District.

What school will my child be considered a student of?

All students who choose to participate in PVConnect will be considered students of Sweetwater Community School. These students will no longer be connected to their formerly assigned school.

Will my senior student receive a diploma?

Seniors who participate in PVConnect will receive their high school diploma from Sweetwater Community School and participate in Sweetwater's graduation event.

Will PVConnect offer specialized classes?

Specialized classes will not be offered due to staffing and scheduling. In some situations, however, a limited number of specialized classes such as honors and Advanced Placement (AP) can be accessed through PVOnline even as a PVConnect student.

What classroom subjects will my students study?

K-6 students will join a virtual Google Meet classroom each day for direct instruction and activities in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. These students will also participate in special activities like P.E. and art. Grades 7-12 will have access to core classes that include English, math, science, and social studies. Specialized classes will not be offered due to staffing and scheduling. However, in some situations, a limited number of specialized classes such as honors and Advanced Placement (AP) can be accessed through PVOnline as a PVConnect student.

What will my student’s school day look like?

PVConnect will use a condensed schedule. Grades K-2 will have primary core online instruction for approximately 3.5 to 4 hours each morning. Grades 3-6 will have 4.5 to 5 hours of direct online instruction each morning. Afternoons will consist of independent learning activities, scheduled small groups, and individual instruction.

PVConnect will offer IEP/504 support for students with special needs, as well as services for gifted students and English Language Learners will be provided.

PVOnline FAQs

What is PVOnline?

PVOnline is a self-paced online learning experience. Students work independently and have access to the curriculum anytime they wish. Students have access to PVSchools teachers through a teacher-supported learning environment but do not meet with teachers daily.

Is my student completely on their own?

Students receive one-on-one instructional support from highly qualified, certified teachers and have access to peer-to-peer homework help and a drop-in learning lab where they can connect with other online students. PVOnline provides choice and flexibility for individual student success and allows students to study at their own pace in a flexible environment.

Is PVOnline accredited?

PVOnline is an approved Arizona Online Instruction provider through the Arizona State Board of Education and is fully accredited as an extension of the school district. All PVOnline teachers are highly qualified and certified in their area of instruction.
