Open Enrollment Window

Open enrollment enables Arizona students to attend public schools outside their district attendance areas or outside their district of residence. It is open to all Arizona-based students.

The official K-12 District Open Enrollment period is September 1, 2020, through January 21, 2021.

  • The Early Bird Round, which is for families residing within, as well as outside, district boundaries, begins on Sept. 1 and concludes on Dec. 1. All early bird applications received will be processed and parents/guardians notified via email prior to winter break.
    • The Early Bird Round is NOT first-come, first-served. Everyone applying between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1 has the same opportunity for acceptance.
  • The Final Round, which is for out-of-district families only, begins Dec. 2, 2020 and concludes on Jan. 21, 2021. Applications received during this time frame will be processed and accepted or denied based on remaining space availability at the requested school. Please note that there may be additional closures by Dec. 1. Applicants will be notified via email in February.
  • After Jan. 21, 2021, please contact the school of your choice to inquire about space availability for enrollment.
  • All open enrollment questions may be directed to tsorenson@pvschools.net (kindergarten-6th grade) or smachas@pvschools.net (grades 7-12).

Traditional Enrollment

If your family is already located within our district's boundaries and you simply want to enroll your child into the school associated with your neighborhood, please disregard this open enrollment process and visit our Enrollment Packet page instead.

Open Enrollment Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about the open enrollment process by clicking on the following questions and reading our responses:

Q: How can I apply for open enrollment?

Parents should apply for open enrollment for the next school year by filling out our online open enrollment form.

Any open enrollment questions may be directed to:

Elementary (K-6)

Secondary (7-12)

Q: Is there a deadline to apply for the next school year?

Applications are due by the date specified on the application form (usually between Sept. 1 and Jan. 21 each year). After the open enrollment period closes, out-of-district parents may reach out to the principal of the school they wish their child to attend. In this case, principals will notify parents of their child's enrollment status as soon as they are able to determine space availability.

Q: Do all PVSchools schools/programs participate?

Yes, with the exception of schools or programs that have reached capacity, as mentioned under each of the school levels mentioned earlier on this page.

Q: My child is currently attending a PV school under open enrollment. Do I need to reapply for the following school year?

Students currently attending under open enrollment do not need to reapply for the following school year, including students who are advancing to middle school or high school, as long as that school is in their current school feeder group. Applications for siblings of students currently participating in open enrollment receive priority status in the open enrollment process. This is a Governing Board Policy revision (5.2.2) as of 8-1-2013.

Q: Once I have submitted the application, when will I be notified of my child's status?

Parents will receive notification by mail or email of the outcome of their application. Open enrollment status is not determined on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone who applies during the open enrollment period has the same opportunity for acceptance. In the event more applications are received than spaces available, a lottery drawing will be held to determine which applications received during the open enrollment period will be accepted.

Q: Is bus transportation provided for open enrolled students?

Transportation for open enrolled students is the responsibility of the parents.

Q: What is the age cut-off for Kindergarten?

Children who turn 5 years of age no later than August 31 of the enrolling year are eligible to apply for open enrollment into PVSchools Kindergarten.

Q: How do I open enroll my child into Kindergarten?

The enrollment process is the same as for later grades. Submit the online open enrollment form on behalf of your out-of-district, soon-to-be Kindergartener.
